Greetings Future Gator-Docs-To-Be!

Orientation for the Class of 2030 will tentatively span July 27 – July 30, 2026 though official dates will be announced soon. Mid-spring of 2026, we will post a link to the Orientation Checklist which will include important items needed by the Office of Student Affairs before you can be registered for fall classes. Please see the Office of Student Affairs website for a preview of the required forms. NOTE: These forms will be appropriately updated later in the cycle for your incoming class.

Please make sure you have noted all requirements and returned all required forms & fees by their deadlines! Please note that the mailing address will be listed on each form. Dates are subject to change.

Please do not purchase any equipment (stethoscopes, etc) until you have received a list of requirements.

How do we do email?

Email is one of our main communication tools and it is your responsibility to check it frequently. One of the tasks that our IT folks have been working on is to give you UF Microsoft Exchange(OUTLOOK) email accounts. This is the same email system used by the faculty. We believe that there are lots of advantages to having the same email and calendaring system. If you currently have Gatorlink email, your email address will remain the same. Our expectation is that you will forward all existing Gatorlink messages to your new Exchange account. Your UF Exchange/Gatorlink email address is your official email (UF business address). You should never forward it to other emails (Gmail, etc.) as other sites are not privacy protected.

Our plan is to use the capabilities of Outlook for better communication with you. For those of you with smartphones etc, this will make your lives much easier!

SO how will this work?

If you were a UF student and managed your email in your Gatorlink mailbox or in an external (non-UF) account to which they may have been forwarding messages, any messages contained in an existing Gatorlink mailbox, will remain in place. I.e. you will have 2 sites with all new email going to outlook.

The email address for UF business is UserName@ufl.edu

Mail sent to UserName@ufl.edu is being delivered to UserName@ufl.edu

You will manage your email accounts using the Outlook Web Access application or by using the Outlook client which has been installed on a computer they sign onto using their GatorLink ID.

The plan is to configure GatorLink forwarding and UF Business E-mail Address values on the first day of orientation.

FYI: everyone has the ability to change this setting independently using functions presented in myUFL > Main Menu > My Account, so be advised COM’s standard calls for you to use your Gatorlink email address as your UF business email address. ALL Gatorlink messages will be forwarded to your Exchange account by way of UF’s spam filter.

The University of Florida requires us to have permission from our students to capture photos and video at university events for UF Health Science Center news publications (such as the POST) as well as the College of Medicine alumni magazine (Florida Physician) and news website (Insider). If you prefer to opt out, please indicate this on the form and we will remind you to step out of view of the camera at these events. For questions, please contact the UF Health Communications Office at (352)273-5810.

Late spring/early Summer: Please take a moment to read this letter from the Registrar

Letter from James A. Gorske, MEd

October 21, 2025

Greetings,

On behalf of the University of Florida’s College of Medicine Office of Student Affairs, I would like to congratulate you on your offer of admission to the College of Medicine.

In fulfilling its commitment to provide all students with opportunities to take full advantage of the medical education program, the College recognizes that students with documented disabilities may require reasonable accommodations to meet the College’s Technical Standards.

Students with disabilities who experience access barriers and would like to request accommodations should connect with the University of Florida’s Disability Resource Center (DRC). Accommodations are available for students with disabilities, such as: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); Mental Health Conditions, such as Anxiety and Depression; Medical/Health Conditions, such as Crohn’s Disease, Low Vision, and Migraines; and Learning Disorders, such as a Reading Disorder.

Given the pace of the medical school curriculum, I encourage students with disabilities to register with the DRC either in advance of or at the beginning of their first semester to ensure access to accommodations to the fullest extent possible. Even if you do not plan to access your accommodations immediately, early registration is still encouraged so that if accommodations are needed, your DRC registration is already in place.

Please be assured that information provided to the Disability Resource Center is voluntary and confidential and your registration with the DRC will not be reflected on your academic transcript.

Once you register with the DRC, I will serve as your liaison in the College of Medicine for the facilitation of your accommodations. Please contact me at jgorske@ufl.edu with any questions.

For a complete description of UF COM’s Technical Standards, and more information on requesting accommodations, please carefully review the following website: https://admissions.med.ufl.edu/admission-requirements/technical-standards/
